A brilliant orator, an eminent lawyer and a great parliamentarian, N.C. Chatterjee served the country in various capacities.  He always upheld the principles of civil liberties and human rights and made significant contributions to widen their frontiers.  He was closely associated with many public welfare bodies and organisations as well as educational institutions.  As a parliamentarian, he always followed the rules of procedure and tenets of conduct in the House meticulously.  Through his compelling and convincing arguments, he raised the standard of debates and made the instrument of Parliament more potent and effective.

The portrait, painted by Shambu Das, was unveiled by the then Vice-President of India, Shri K.R. Narayanan on 20 December 1995.

The portrait was donated by Shri Somnath Chatterjee, MP.
