A leading advocate, teacher, freedom fighter, legendary parliamentarian, educationist and a fine human being, S. Satyamurti contributed to the building of modern India through his parliamentary skill and his relentless fight with the British bureaucracy in the Legislature.  He was a member of the Madras Legislative Council and the Central Legislative Assembly.  He was a great connoisseur of art and culture and was instrumental in the setting up of the Music Academy of Madras.  As an educationist, he was an active member of the Madras University Syndicate and was associated with the starting of the Annamalai University.

The portrait was unveiled by the then President of India, Shri R. Venkataraman on 19 August 1987.

The portrait was donated by the Satyamurti Centenary Committee.
